Many Floridians enjoy boating in their leisure time. Boats can be challenging to navigate so it’s important that boaters use caution and follow safety protocols. Unfortunately, boating accidents do happen, and they can result in serious injuries or death. A recent accident in Franklin County injured three people and left another person dead. Investigators are still trying to determine what caused the crash.

Boating accidents can be very serious

The injuries suffered in a boating collision can be similar to what one suffers in a car accident. The recent Franklin County accident involved two boats. They collided while in Scipio Creek, in the area near the mouth of the Apalachicola River. Three people were injured in the accident and another person was killed.

The boating accident is under investigation by the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission. The FWC will attempt to determine what happened in the moments leading up to the accident to better understand the cause. Depending on the results of the inquiry, one or both boaters could face criminal charges.

Legal recourse for victims of boating accidents

A boat accident can leave one with life-altering injuries and sometimes those injuries are even fatal. Victims of boating collisions, or their surviving family members, have the right to seek compensation if the evidence suggests that the accident was the result of negligence. By filing a civil lawsuit against the party at fault, Florida accident victims can pursue recovery for the financial losses that often come after being involved in an accident with serious injuries.
